William M. Jennings Trophy
Goaltender(s) on Team with Fewest Goals Against / 44 seasons awarded
Description: First awarded in 1981-82, the William M. Jennings Trophy is presented annually “to the goaltender(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team(s) with the fewest goals scored against it during the regular season.” History: The William M. Jennings Trophy was presented in 1981-82 by the NHL’s Board of Governors in honor of the late William M. Jennings, longtime governor and president of the New York Rangers and one of the great builders of hockey in the United States. Until the 1980-81 season, the Vezina Trophy was awarded to the goaltender(s) of the team(s) allowing the fewest number of goals during the regular season. 2025-26 Winners: The Colorado Avalanche yielded a League-low 203 goals (including shootout-deciding goals) to finish 23 clear of their nearest competition – the Dallas Stars (226) – en route to earning their second William M. Jennings Trophy, following 2001-02 (Patrick Roy). Scott Wedgewood (43) and Mackenzie Blackwood (36) combined to start 79 of Colorado’s 82 total games, with Trent Miner accounting for the other three, as the Avalanche yielded two or fewer goals (including shootout-deciding goals) a League-best 51 times (62.2%) – 11 more than the next-closest team (TBL: 40). Wedgewood went 31-6-6 across 45 total appearances to lead the NHL (minimum: 25 GP) in both goals-against average (2.02) and save percentage (.921) while sharing third place in shutouts (4) and fourth place in wins (31). He became the ninth different goaltender in franchise history to post a 30-win season, with his 31 victories 15 more than his prior career high established in 2023-24 (16-7-5 in 32 GP w/ DAL). Blackwood compiled a 23-10-2 record in 39 contests, his third NHL campaign with at least 20 wins. He finished among the top 20 in the League in goals-against average (8th; 2.51), shutouts (t-10th; 3), save percentage (20th; .904) and wins (t-20th; 23).
